 | AKRON CHAPTER REPORT |
brenda writes "Well it is hard to believe another year has passed. Here we are at another convention and fall is just around the corner. I do not know about you but the summer just passed us by. The Derbytown chapter struggles, just like every other chapter, to keep our members excited and active. After last year’s convention and the loss of James Truman, it seems that some of our members have had difficulty returning to our meetings. We have had many of our meetings over a dinner at a restaurant and have enjoyed our fellowship and friendship. Albert keeps us updated on all the national news and we know all of you have been busy.
We have our same officers as last year and miss our Gloria Payne as well as the kindness and spirituality she always brought to our meetings. We will have a new member join us which will be nice and perhaps he can join us next year for the 50th anniversary. It is hard to believe that just 10 years ago Akron held the 40th Anniversary convention. I was new to the group then and our founding members like Clarence Averill, Jerry Snyder, and James Truman greeted each and every one of us. I remember saying the NAPH men had more lines than graph paper! I know that I am not the only one who wishes we could hear those lines again. As we finish the 49th Convention and look forward to the 50th, may we re-energize and move forward to even more friendships, fellowships and the realization that the work of people with disabilities is never done. Let us keep it going as long as possible. Respectfully Submitted, Regenia Huffman, Derbytown President
