brenda writes "The Midland Action Chapter of NAPH has had a very busy year. As a group we have had many outings in our local Midland community.
We have been delighted that our membership has substantially increased over the past year. With the increased growth in our chapter, we have become very knowledgeable about all the activities and programs being offered to the physically challenged in and around our local area.
One of the most rewarding experiences our chapter has had this year was the decision that we made at one of our meetings last fall to adopt a young lady at Christmas from the Disability Network. We brought canned goods and household items to our Christmas Party which was held at the Holiday Inn. A motion was made that the young lady we adopted may like some fun things for herself so we decided to play Santa again and give her some additional gift certificates so she could purchase some extra goodies for herself. The day of our Christmas party dawned cold and snowy so it was very appropriate for Kathy to read a “comical” version of The Night before Christmas. Brenda and Kathy also sported their handy crafts and made everyone a personal take home gift. The party was an especially fun evening had by all.
We have had a large increase in candy bar sales also. With the additional sales we have seen a significant increase in our budget.
We also had another memorable experience this summer. We had a chapter picnic at the Williams Township Park in Auburn. It was another grand success with all the great food as well as a great attendance. It was at this picnic that we were honored with our Michigan Area President, Gerri Meadows, who came to install our new officers for the year. Cindy Hall was installed as our new President. It was great also to have Albert Ost at our picnic. This year has been eventful and fun and especially kept everyone’s interest up. Once we had our picnic we had some great magic tricks performed by our newest member and some very inspiring words by another member. So it was just another grand event.
It is hard to believe it is fall again and here we are talking about another Christmas Party but it is always amazing how fast time does fly by!
We are looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming convention. For some of our members, it will be our first time attending the convention, so don’t be shy, come and say hi. We especially appreciate all the hard work that Albert has been working on for so long to make our convention such a rewarding experience for all of us.
Sincerely,
Kathy Johnroe, Corresponding Secretary
